Professor Alfred Yawson is Chair in Corporate Finance and Cluster Leader, Wealth Management, and Wealth Creation Research group at the University of Adelaide Business School, Australia. Before taking up this appointment, he held academic and administrative positions at the University of Adelaide, the University of New South Wales, and a one-year visiting position at Cass Business School, City University London.
He has held other visiting positions at the University of Ghana, Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, and Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA). Professor Yawson's primary research interest lies in the area of corporate finance, particularly mergers and acquisitions (M&As). He is also interested in other corporate restructuring activities, corporate governance, investment banking, personal and development finance.
He has won a competitive research grant from the Australian Research Council (ARC) and also the Executive Dean's research excellence award. He has presented his research in leading finance conferences and seminars throughout the world. He has published extensively in leading international scholarly finance journals, including the Journal of Financial Economics, Journal of Corporate Finance, and Journal of Banking and Finance.
He is the editor of the International Journal of Managerial Finance. Professor Yawson has teaching experience in Australia, Ghana, New Zealand, Singapore, and the United Kingdom. He has successfully supervised several Ph.D. and MPhil thesis on various topics in finance. He obtained a first-class honours degree in Accounting from the University of Ghana, a Master of Science in Finance with distinction, and a Ph.D. in Finance both from Queen's University Belfast in the UK.
He is a Chartered Accountant with industry experience from reputable financial institutions. Professor Yawson was part of the team that pioneered the Value Added Tax policy implementation in Ghana.
