Dr. Asabea Shirley Ahwireng-Obeng

Asabea Shirley Ahwireng-Obeng is an academic and consultant with keen research interest in Capital Markets, Financial Economics, Institutions, Investments as well as Entrepreneurship/Philanthropy in emerging economies, particularly Africa.

She obtained a BA degree in International Relations and Industrial Psychology from the University of Witwatersrand in 2009, and a Master's degree in Business Leadership (MBL) specialising in Corporate Finance, from the Unisa School of Business Leadership (SBL) in 2011.

In the same year, she obtained a Certificate in Risk Management (also from UNISA), and in 2013, a Master's degree in Finance and Investment (MMFI) from the Witwatersrand Business School (WBS). Inspired by the enormous potential for research in the African continent, Asabea completed a PhD in Financial Economics from WBS in 2016.

Dr Ahwireng-Obeng consults widely in the broader fields of Economic and Financial Development, teaches on various Master's programmes, and supervises post-graduate student research. She is currently broadening her research and publications to include various under-researched areas of African Philanthropy and Social Investment.
